AOPA Releases Latest Industry Statistics

Alexandria, VA--- The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) has released the latest O&P industry statistics in the 2004 AOPA Operating Performance and Compensation (OPC) Report, giving O&P facilities new benchmarks for evaluating and identifying opportunities to improve business performance.

Using data representing over 890 O&P facility locations, the OPC Report includes comparative financial ratios in every cost category of running an O&P business. The OPC Report enables O&P facilities to compare and evaluate significant differences in their own financial, operating and compensation figures to that of others in the industry. In addition, the OPC Report provides data on the “Profit Leaders”, the upper 25% of O&P facilities, based on return on assets figures.

The OPC Report includes:

in-depth financial profile of the O&P industry
balance sheets and income statements
compensation information
employee benefit analysis
payer information organized by total revenue size; and
community size and profitability.

"I use the OPC Report to compare my facility to others in the industry," said Ken Gunnells of Floyd Brace Co., Inc. "Materials and labor expenses are the highest cost to my facility. The OPC Report helps me identify potential cost cutting opportunities."

The Table of Contents of the OPC Report can be viewed at www.AOPAnet.org. Customers should visit www.AOPAnet.org or call the AOPA Bookstore at (301) 362-6910.

AOPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping O&P businesses and professionals navigate the multitude of business issues which surround the delivery of patient care. With over 1,900 member patient care facilities, suppliers and manufacturers, AOPA represents the O&P profession as one voice, aggressively lobbying Congress, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Affairs, private insurers and others for policy changes that will achieve fair treatment for the O&P community.
