So my ISP guy says "you should try OEMPro".
Just like that he tosses out this tidbit of gold.
Since I learned a long time ago that there are people out there that know more than I do, I did.
From the first contact the company was pleasant, helpful and professional. They installed the software and sent me the url to the 127 page userguide.
I then spent quite a while messing around, trying to figure out what each link did and was overwhelmed at the complexity.
This is NOT one of those things you promise the bosses you'll have out in three days. It'll take you that long to read the manual and to get a good grasp of what the software can really do.
Once I got the templates installed - with the help of their tech support - I was misunderstanding the instructions so it's all on me - I started actually getting some things accomplished.
I created some Members, a test list, a pile of accounts at various levels, five templates, and then used the supplied code to integrate everything seamlessly into various websites using the built in branding option.
Each website was set up with it's own set of responders, signup pages, results pages, archives and rss feed all perfectly matching the site it was on since I chose to actually serve the forms on the site but if I had just wanted the software to handle it all I had to do was put the code into the html editor and save and the software would serve the page that I sent - so absolutely identical to the site it represents without actually hitting the site itself.. nice huh? I think so too.
Then the most wonderful thing happened. It started to work. By itself. People signed up, people confirmed, people got email, people clicked links, and best of all people unsubscribed.
And that is one of the reasons you NEED this software.
The peace of mind you get knowing that all your lists are using the double opt in feature helps you when you send - that feeling of dread that responsible marketers get when they send their email, worrying about response rates is virtually eliminated since your members have asked for your message and they can leave at any time simply by clicking a link that is convenienty able to be included in every email.
Not to mention it's extremely likely that it's against the Terms of Service of your ISP to send unsolicited commercial email, in which case, you could wake up one morning shut down completely.
This also eliminates that "taken hostage" feeling I personally get when I give out my own email address. I HATE having to log in to stop getting email.
The reason you WANT this software is because it is FUN.
Seriously. The built in editor lets you play with your layout all you want and you can see the updates just by clicking a button. You can use whatever you want for art, serve a page from your site as your content if you like, add personalization, and most fun of all, you can watch your campaign in realtime.. just load the reports and see how many deliveries are left and how long it'll be till everyone knows about your fabulous offer.
But it gets better. Once you finish sending, watch the RESULTS reports to see who did what and when with your email, including ignoring it.. Oh, and if you are doing this for money, don't forget to add your client to the dashboard so they can see the numbers too.. You don't have to worry that they'll poke around where you don't want them to because you can set them up with whatever access you like, and you can VERIFY it by toggling the login personality to their account so you can test it yourself.
I'm still learning some of the finer points of the software and their signifigance - every time I do, I get this little giddy "wow" feeling which makes each time I log in and check out another area kind of like Christmas.
